A regular Sunday online gathering of creatives with the intention of making the time and space to drop into creative flow. And feel better for it.

We do some journaling, some meditation and most of us practice Wild Art Journaling using random prompts for inspiration (IYKYK). Or some of us use the time to work on their own projects. We also have occasional gallery visits, and we are currently doing a collaborative sketchbook project, and we do creative projects that feel fun and joyful to do. Many of us have done or are doing The Artists Way.

The benefits of a regular practice - as told by Wild Artists Club members;

  • “I love being part of a community of creatives.”

  • “I am able to stay connected to creativity, inspiration and exploration.”

  • “It helps me create the time and space to ‘put everything else down’ for a while.”

  • “It’s cheaper than therapy” (natch!)

  • “It helps me in committing to my creative practice”

  • “It gets me outside of my usual ways of working.”

  • “It always makes me feel better.”

  • “It is more refreshing than a nap!”

  • “What I really like is that my family know that this time is my creative time and they leave me to it.”

  • “It is space for new ideas to come through.”

  • “I discover something new every week.”

WHAT HAPPENS EVERY WEEK *you can always join in or not - it is up to you

  • 5 mins free writing as the base layer to free up your mind and get things off your chest.

  • Short guided meditation to create internal space & become present

  • Paint or collage over the writing as you go.

  • Be Inspired by different prompts that are given by assorted attendees.

  • Each prompt promotes a new colour choice or way of working.

  • You end up with your own unique abstract art work.

  • There is NO wrong way.

  • (*Or you can just use the time and space to work on your own creative project.)

  • The sessions last for 1.5hrs and you can often find yourself continuing long after on your own

KIT LIST *or bring what you have and play

  • sturdy paper or sketchbook

  • ball point pen (or any pen, really - but sharpies aren’t the best, they seep through everything!)

  • Pritt stick or glue stick

  • A hairdryer

  • Acrylic paints various colours - whatever you have

  • White gesso if you have it, white acrylic paint works just as well

  • old magazines  / collage materials.

And, I will say it again, you are totally welcome to use the space, time and company to do your own creative thing.  Bring what you have and see how it goes. You can’t get it wrong.

There is also a members WhatsApp group - we usually just share our work there on Sundays (it is definitely not obligatory to do so, but most people enjoy looking at the work) We also share good podcasts, tv shows, books or exhibitions worth seeing. We occasionally meet up - 4 of us went to Pallant House Gallery in Chichester last November. I am hoping to take Wild Art on Tour to the North this year. And I hope to organise a London gallery trip soon. Some of us are doing a postal collaborative sketchbook project which is fun. I am open to suggestions.

FAQs

Are the sessions recorded? No - this is a live experience. If asked I can send out the prompts list.

Is there a library of Art Journaling techniques videos? No - at least not at present! (maybe if it is requested) - The reason being that Wild Art Journaling is a process, that we practice. It is more about discovering your own way of Art Journaling, learning to let go of following someone else’s techniques and just PLAYING to see what comes up. This is not to diminish learning from others, or picking up techniques to play with. I love doing that. But currently this is a PRACTICE space where we create freely. Having said that, further to requests from the group I have made a video sharing some of the techniques I use which is available to members.

Do I need to speak / have my camera on / Share my work? No - this is time and space for you. If you do not feel up for sharing, talking or being seen, that is fine with all of us. This is time for you to create for your own pleasure.

Can I get it wrong? No! This is a space for experiments and mess. There is not even “good” or “bad”, just “did you enjoy it?”

Why is a hairdryer on the kit list? This is technical - because Wild Art Journaling works in layers - and there is a lot of letting go - if you paint and you want to collage on top, you need to dry the paint. A hairdryer speeds up the process. You can also use a heat gun if you have one!.

Is it on EVERY week? YES - pretty much on every week. Occasionally I can’t make it, for work, family or I am sick. But it is rare. And usually, in those cases, I will get someone else to open the zoom up so the space is open for all members to create. I won’t do Christmas day or Boxing day. But we ran it over Christmas this year because neither of those days were a Sunday. The thing is I LOVE THIS PRACTICE. So I am keen to do it every week.
